End of Summer BBQ
Dunboyne AC ran an 'End of Summer BBQ; Saturday 19 September, and was attended by senior members of the club along with coaches and some friends of the club. The event was a huge success and coupled with idilic weather conditions gave the participants a real tropical feel. The event was flavoured with excellent locally produced meats and a mix of traditional irish and salsa music. The ladies of the club provided an array of delicious home prepared salads and some very colorful deserts. A special thanks goes to club athletes Teresa Smith, Michelle Wall, Siobhan Lavin & Catherine Dunne for their wonderful culinary contributions. The night progressed into a marvelous revelation of talent in the club including our own resident Irish Dancers, Catherine Dunne & Siobhan Lavin. Vice chairman Councillor Noel Leonard delighted all with his seanachaí style story telling around the camp fire and gave a magnificent display of interpretive sean nós dancing. Our balladeers on guitar and banjo Ciarán Lavin and Ian Durnin put on a very polished display of fine playing and provided a fantastic anchor for singers in the group. This event characterizes the quality of people that are associated with this club in all it's aspects both socially and is a great asset to the Dunboyne Community. To all who made this another very successful Dunboyne Athletic Club event we are very grateful indeed for your support. Dunboyne Athletic Club is currently accepting new members to train in athletics at all levels and any information required regarding training please consult this website or contact Mark Blackwell. News Update 16/9/09
Dunboyne AC annual family fun day took place on Sunday 14th September last, and it was a great success. The weather was fantastic, and the crowd turned up in their hundreds for one of the biggest attendances ever for this annual event. The pony rides provided by Dunboyne Riding School were a huge success, and for anybody wishing to find out some further details, go to their web site http://dunboyneridingschool.com/. There were a number of other new events this year which proved very popular such as the bungee run and sumo wrestling. As usual, the novelty races were a great success for young and old ranging from sack race, three-legged race and mother's & father's races. A variety of bouncy castles and obstacle events kept both the young (and some not so young) entertained, and there were a record number of entries for the dog show with some fantastically groomed pets on display. Dunboyne AC would like to thank all who turned up on the day, and also thanks to SIAC Construction who sponsored the event. Without the support of club members and volunteers, it would not be possible to hold this event, so a huge thank you to all who helped out over the weekend for setting up the events, supervising each event on the day, making teas and sandwiches, face-painting & photographs and for the tidy-up afterwards. Thanks also to Meath Civil Defence members who were in attendance, and Sidewalk Catering who provided some well deserved nourishment for all the volunteers after the event. As well as providing fun & entertainment for all , the day is one of the major fundraising events for the year, and enables Dunboyne AC to provide services & facilities for all the Juvenile, Fit4Life & Senior members, and help it to grow from strength to strength as one of the largest clubs in the country. The committee are already looking ahead to next years event, and hope to build on the success of this year, and provide some great new events to provide fun & entertainment for all.

News Update 5/9/09
Dunboyne Athletic Club is making good headway recently in its ethos of promoting a positive attitude to health and fitness in the opportunity it offers those who simply wish to improve their cardiovascular fitness right up to those who wish to participate in competitive races and actually compete for the club.
One of our more unassuming athletes who would never court any attention for his progress along the fitness ladder is a case in point. His name is Sean Kinnane. A former Coláiste Mhuire student who speaks fluent Irish and retains a love for his heritage by playing a few tunes and singing a few songs when the occasion is right, entered the accountancy world as his profession. His work took him all over Europe and Russia. His role as financial controller in breweries involved considerable corporate entertainment attendance which often required diligent product sampling and regular smoking.
Sean returned to Ireland about 8 years ago. About 4 years ago he joined a Fit For Life group at Dunboyne Athletic Club which caters for walkers and joggers in the main. As Sean's social function type lifestyle calmed down and 3 boys arrived on the scene, he found himself training more and getting fitter. Sean competes regularly for the club now. His times have gone from 20 plus minutes for 5k down to his most recent race in Monaghan last Friday night where he ran 16.58 on a course with hills.
Sean has just turned 45 on the 4th of August last. This humorous and affable man has clear natural ability that has heretofore gone untapped without doubt, but all are welcome at Dunboyne Athletic Club, whatever your ability. Dunboyne AC Club Coach Paul Gorey
That's Sean above
Dunboyne AC is having it's Annual Family Fund Day at the Athletic Club grounds 2pm on Sunday 13th September. This is a very popular fund raising event and is well attended every year. This year there will be added attractions to ensure a fun filled day for all the family. The usual novelty races will take place as well as the stalls and face painting. There is the very popular bouncing castles and the gladiators event. The Pitch and Putt, Basketball and Penalty kick competitions together with a few surprise treats for the kids. A new Bungy Run is added this year and a special attraction which is sure to draw the crowds is the Pony Riding arena. Don't miss this classic fun filled family occasion and support your local athletic club.
We are grateful to our sponsors for the fun day, SIAC & Ferrovial, who are currently constructing the M3 motorway and the railway line around Dunboyne. We wish them well in thier projects
